Litter prevention campaign

REIGATE & BANSTEAD Borough Council

The challenge

The brief was to create a visual campaign which encouraged people to rethink their littering habits. The council especially wanted to target minor offenders who just leave occasional small amounts of litter.

The solution

The campaign dispels the excuses which people make for littering. The excuse, shown in a thought bubble, is contrasted with the reality of the litter problem. Careful litterers are particularly targeted, showing visually that even ‘just one box’ is a cumulative part of the problem.

The campaign addresses the range of offenders from persistent litterers, with the harder hitting message ‘Don’t trash our borough’, to the ‘just box won’t matter’ brigade and also rewards positive behaviour with a thank you message.

Mary’s extensive experience with public sector clients means she can quickly become part of the team and get under the skin of a brief. She helped us distil our ideas for the litter campaign into simple, clear, eye-catching designs that have been well received internally as well as externally.
