Powerful campaign with a shocking message

REIGATE & BANSTEAD Borough Council

The challenge

A powerful image was needed to communicate this emotive issue sensitively, without stereotypes or clichés – and within the local authority budget. The image also had to be grounded in a local situation to convey the main thrust of the message – that modern slavery happens even in leafy Surrey.

The solution

As the budget did not cover commissioning photography, the image was achieved by mixing a local photo and a carefully chosen stock library shot with some Photoshop artistry. Combined with simple strong typography, this formed the basis for a powerful campaign with excellent recognition and recall.

I was impressed by how quickly Mary ‘got’ the brief and answered it with a range of concepts, any one of which I would have been happy to use. The quality and scope of her ideas was beyond my expectations.

The chosen design was spot-on straightaway, so there was no need for any time-wasting negotiations to make it work. Mary’s service was excellent. She was thorough, helpful and went the extra mile to create an unexpected fold-out leaflet at the last minute. Everything was delivered on time and in budget.

Mary’s design work, with its excellent recognition and recall, helped to make the campaign a great success. There was such a high demand for the material that a second print run was swiftly needed to keep up with demand.
